Back to Work

How is being back at work going? Are you eyes feeling tired, sore, gritty?

Our eyes weren’t designed to be constantly in front of a screen; especially for long periods with in temperature-controlled environments. We can all agree there are lots of benefits to our digital lives, but constant screen time can take a toll on our eyes.

What was once called “Computer Vision Syndrome” following the growing popularity of computers in the early 1990s is now termed “Digital Eye Strain”. Symptoms include tired eyes, headaches, dry eyes and blurry vision. It is suggested prevalence in adults is 50% or more, so the majority of us are struggling with some form of digital eye strain.

So now we're back at work, how can do to make our eyes more comfortable????

Follow the 20-20-20 Rule.
Every 20 minutes, shift your eyes to look at an object at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. This gives your eye muscles and focus a chance to relax.

Remember to Blink!
Digital devices also affect our blinking – concentrated work at screens reduces our blink rate by up to 70% and the rate of incomplete blinks increases. Blinking plays a vital role in keeping the eyes comfortable.

Stay Hydrated
Staying hydrated also means your tears have enough “water” in them.

When the time is right…. Have an eye exam.
If it continues to be a problem having an examination to assess for Dry Eye Disease or Meibomian Gland Dysfunction would be recommended.
