The Influence of Age

Age is commonly associated with dry eyes. Advancing age is a significant risk factor for dry eye disease. A recent cross-sectional study has found meibomian gland dysfunction appears earlier in life in the mid to late 20s, whereas Aqueous deficiency typically develops later from the mid 40s.

Like many conditions, early intervention is key. If you’re in your 20’s or 30’s and get sore eyes, tried eyes, red eyes or red rims of the eyes an ocular surface and tear analysis may be in order.
